Ibadan Indie Film Awards 2022: Kayode Kasum, Korede Azeez and Okwong Fadamana Announced as Jury

Ibadan Indie Film Awards 2022 announces Kayode Kasum, Korede Azeez and Okwong Fadamana as Jury for its maiden edition.

The Ibadan Indie Film Awards managed by Georgina Duke along with a team of associates will be hosted by New Culture Studio, welcoming filmmakers to celebrate, recognise and reward exceptional storytellers and showcase the works of Nigerian independent filmmakers both at home and abroad.

For its 2022 maiden edition, the IFA has chosen a team of exceptional and experienced filmmakers and fair judges, which include: Kayode Kasum of filmtrybe and director of Obara’M, Soole, This Lady Called Life, Sugar Rush, Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards, Quam’s Money, Dwindle, Castle & Castle S2. Korede Azeez, one of the six filmmaker finalists of the Netflix-UNESCO African folktales reimagined competition and director of It Blooms in June, Tip of the Edge, Man Coin. And Okwong Fadamana, the brains behind In IbadanMr. Gbenga’s Hard DriveCrushed RosesMemories that Never ExistedHoliwota and Abe Ni.

The role of the Jury is to screen the entries, shortlist the nominees and decide on the winners in these categories – Best Short Film(Narrative/Documentary), Best Feature-length (Narrative/Documentary) and Best Experimental Films.  

In statement to What Kept Me Up, Rufus Nwoko, creative director at the New Culture Studio, shared “As an artist, the people around you are your first critics and your first audience before the rest of the world. For the Ibadan Indie Film Awards, we are trying to build a home-based community that appreciates not just Nigerian filmmakers based here but around the world.

Demas Nwoko the founder of New Culture Studio Ibadan said, that ‘if you remain true and natural to where you were born, whatever you do will be UNIVERSAL’. The  Ibadan Indie Film Awards is that platform to bring your craft home and then global.” 

Submissions for the IFA are still open and will close on October 30th (late deadline).
